English-French / French-English Bilingualism Policy
Declaration of Principle
The Canadian Society for Epidemiology and Biostatistics
(CSEB), as a national organization, recognizes both
of Canada’s
official languages as having the same status within
the organization. To this end, CSEB strives to ensure:
I. Board of Directors
- That at least one member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors is bilingual.
II. Secretariat
- That the secretariat provides bilingual services or draws upon bilingual members of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors or Board of Directors to provide bilingual services when necessary.
III. Committees
- That Committees have at least one member who is bilingual where possible.
IV. General Communications
- That general communications to Society members be bilingual.
- That responses to inquiries be in the original official language of the communication in question.
- That the Society website be bilingual with the exception of job postings, which are published in the original language(s) of submission.
- That the Society newsletter (The Bulletin) be bilingual.
- That the Society publish CSEB material in English and French.
- That the Society publish non-CSEB material in the original official language of the material in question.
- That the Society By-law, policies, and strategic plans be released to the public as bilingual documents.
- That other Society documents be translated into both official languages as the situation warrants and the budget permits.
- Annual General Meeting (AGM) minutes will be translated into both official languages.
V. Conferences
- That CSEB-led national conference promotional materials and communications be bilingual.
- That CSEB-led national conference documentation (e.g., the program) be bilingual, and abstracts remain in the language of submission.
- That CSEB-led regional/local conference promotional materials and programs be in the language more commonly understood in the region.
- That CSEB-led conference presentations remain in the language of submission.
VI. Workshops
- That CSEB-led workshop promotional materials and communications be bilingual.
- That CSEB-led workshop documentation (e.g., the program) be bilingual.
- That CSEB-led workshop events be conducted in the presenter or presenters’ official language of choice (CSEB also permits and encourages bilingual workshop events).
VII. Awards
- That the Society award nomination process, awards, and citations be bilingual.
